MaTiga Fund - please set up a monthly recurring donation
by Michèle Schiess
The work Thomas Linders and I do in the rural Free State has exposed us firsthand to the “forgotten people”. Extreme poverty, addictions and violence are experienced by our neighbours. We know that with radical care this can change, and what better way to finance care and healing initiatives, than with change! We are requesting R10 per month (in perpetuity) from millions of South Africans.
Once funding is flowing, professionals will be engaged to conduct workshops in troubled areas; those 532 townships, and an estimated 2 225 informal settlements in South Africa. The workshops are to establish what the most pressing issues are, as perceived by those who live in the communities. Once a consensus has been reached, community leaders are to take this forward with their pod. MaTiga becomes their financial partner and support. The important thing is that communities take ownership of their solutions and each household is expected to pay their R10 subscription too.
Whatever initiatives the Community Pods (300 people per pod) come up with that will serve to heal damaged psychology and nourish young teenagers with purpose, the initiative is mandated to harvest rainwater and run a food garden. MaTiga will be partnering with these initiatives for up to five years, in which time they will have been taught financial literacy, and have developed an enterprise to sustain them into the future.
We want this fund to be for our people, by our people. If you would like to participate in returning South Africa to its blueprint of well-being, please take a look our website: www.matiga.africa and donate by setting up a repeat payment to First National Bank, MaTiga Fund, account 626-798-986-88, Branch code 251255, Swift code: FIRNZAJJ. Obviously, we accept once-off donations as well, but are aiming for a sustainable model with small monthly contribution.
