Poetry Evening
by Jean McGillivray
On Friday night, 31st July at 7.30 fifteen people net for a poetry reading. Some brought music, poems, stories and play readings; some brought cake, soup and savoury platters. What stood out for me was a real sense of community. The atmosphere was one of unity and joy and happiness, it was a really wonderful experience. There are a lot of people who are going through really tough times, this kind of gathering will see us through.

An Exhibition of work by Margaretha Wegerif
Margaretha shared several snippets of wisdom that helped steer the course of her life. One that stood out was a lesson from her father who said: "Where you stand in the world, no one else can stand."

On Sunday, 7th December we welcomed Margaretha Wegerif once more before she leaves in January for new beginnings in Cape Town. She has been a well known part of the local ‘scene’ here for many years, not least of all for her painting work. This originated in the Hauschka School in Germany, and a selection will be exhibited in the Community Room through Advent.
On the opening Sunday Margaretha share aspects of her journey. To see the paintings that are on exhibit click here >> A few examples are shown here: |

Click here to see the more Stalls>> Click here to see the Activities>> Click here to see People>> who attended. The annual Advent Fair was held for the 11th time since it's rebirth. This year the children's activities were spread around the garden providing a delightful background of greenery. The weather held till the end. The atmosphere was one of unhurried community enjoyment. The cakes were home made, the cold food meals provided for lunch were a feast and the coffee was provided by a true barista. Three separate musical ensembles played to entertain us with three completely different styles of music: contemporary, folk and Peruvian.

Preparations for the Advent Fair of 2013
Annual meeting of The Christian Community Regional Council, Southern African Region
The annual meeting of The Christian Community Regional Council, Southern African Region took place in the Johannesburg congregation from Friday evening, 23th to lunch on Sunday, 25th August 2013. Trustees and members of the various congregations were also invited to attend the meeting.
Winter Lunch of 2013
On Sunday, 18th August the congregation was treated to a workshop in acting by Sophie Soerensen, an accomplished actress visiting from Germany. After experiencing how the four temperaments express themselves, particularly in their gait, we sat down to our annual Winter Lunch fundraiser.
Wedding of Carla and Ingmar Lampson
Carla Blankers was a member of our congregation for many years. She was married in Hamburg recently.
Stained glass window
This beautiful window was made by Gail Baker and her mother for a future wake room. In designing and building the new wake room the need for the temperature control of the room outweighed other considerations and it was not possible to install this large window in the new wake room.
So the window has found its home in the foyer of the church where it lights up the room and casts coloured reflections on the walls and floor.

A loud crashing noise at 4am on Sunday 10th March revealed itself at dawn as shown in these photos. Would someone add some history to this tree that has graced the West Manse garden since the 1970's?
