Advent Fair 2022

6/12/2022

The Advent Fair made a return after the Covid. On Saturday 3 December 2022 from 10h00 untill 15h00 stall displayed a range of goods for sale; children were entertained with a story and a puppet show, enjoyed the magic of meeting an angel and entering a dark cave to experience light boats, going on a treasure hunt and making an advent garden; teas, coffees, juices, bacon & egg rolls, cakes, pancakes and a hot lunch filled bellies.

The organising of this fair was an intense six week period that brought about a day that illicited many comments of joy and satisfaction from attendees. Many things have shifted in the last few years, and Covid too as left its mark. Several new faces took on well loved activities and introduced new stalls. Some of the mainstays of an Advent Fair have greatly reduced and the poeple carrying these activities are no longer as active in the creative pursuits that brought about these stalls or activities.

Boitshepo Care Centre

One of our community purchased the furniture that was donated to be sold as White Elephant and donated the furniture to Boitshepo Care Centre in Farm 8 and 9, a squatter camp outside of Cosmo City.

A couple, Collins and Celia, started the centre. Collins was brutally murdered earlier this year, but Celia still lives on the site of the Centre. A group of accountants raise funds for the stipends of the people working at the Centre. The Centre receives donations from other organisations, often donations in kind.

The Centre provides a safe educational environment for young children between the ages of 0 and 5. The centre has 91 children currently but the vegetable garden that the Centre has feeds other children as well.
