A small group of the community sat down on Boxing Day to a festive table and a delicious meal that could have fed double the number. We started with tomato soup and borscht with French loaf. There were a number of interesting salads: brussels sprouts with peanut sauce and grated vegetables; lentils, a white grain and grated cabbages and carrots; a pasta salad; a potato salad; a platter of leaves, fruit and meats. There was chicken, cold meats and pickled fish. There was a delicious nut bread. For dessert we had a trifle and a pavlova. Coffee rounded off the meal. A few people had commitments to run off to while the last people left at 3.30pm.
The garden looked verdant after the rains and we were serenaded by various birds. Good conversation made for a very pleasant afternoon.
