by Rev. Reingard Knausenberger
Change and Being Changed was the theme for an international Camphill Movement retreat-like gathering in Camphill Rankoromane in Botswana from 5 to 9 June, to which Reingard was also invited. It was a meeting of 26 people representing 12 regions world-wide where Camphill Villages and initiatives are. It was an impressive 5 days of deep listening and sharing, infused with the vibrant song and dance of the African soul which got everyone off their chairs and the beginning of each meeting. From Africa where two other initiatives represented from Zimbabwe and Rwanda.
The conference ended with the Act of Consecration of Man in which most of the adult Villagers and Co-workers participate. Since its inception from the early 1980’s on, a Christian Community priest has been invited to celebrate the service in Rankoromane on a regular basis. So, the Johannesburg community has upheld a true caring connection to our ‘next door neighbour’ and been a witness, a like-minded friend and counsellor on their evolving journey of continually asking “what do our children and young people need, what can we do better to develop their skills, how do we re-integrate them into their own home environments”? When we gather at our city altar, they are also inwardly part of the congregation.
