The Gospel Study of Luke’s Gospel and the seventh path of Right Mindfulness

Very few people know anything about The Christian Community when they first encounter it, unlike many other denominations where most people hold some picture. How would we answer when asked who we are? Would the answer from different people provide the same picture?

The Decalogue presented by Rev. Michaël Merle

The decalogue comprises the Ten Utterances of YHWH (Yahweh of the Elohim) to Moses described in Exodes 20. Through the 10 days of Ascension a series of ten discussions were held, preceded on each day by a sermon introducing the topic, from 18 May to 27 May.

​These ten utterances of YHWH to Moses on the mountain were known to the Israelites as the עֲשֶׂרֶת הַדְּבָרִי (transliterated aséret ha-dvarím), literally Ten Words.

The New Word from the Living Word

​The Whitsun programme on the theme of The New Word from the Living Word: The New Commandment as the Living Word Statement of Life in the Spirit was introduced in a discussion on Whitsunday and developed on Whitmonday by looking closely at the meaning of the word ‘commandment’ in John 13: 34 and on Whit-Tuesday by coming to an understanding of the word that is translated as ‘love’ in this verse: “A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another as I have loved you”. A more detailed report on these discussions will appear in the July newsletter.

​Achievements in our community

Rhyse Sothern gave us a demonstration of some of the WuShu forms he was learning in 2021 (see below photos). He has now been selected to compete in the 9th World Kung Fu Championship in August of this year as part of the National Protea Traditional WuShu team in Emeishan, Sichuan, China.

​Flowering plants

It was exciting to notice a succulent plant in our pavement garden shoot out an enormous flower. This started to bloom from its base and day by day the florets at the lower end completed their flowering cycle and new florets higher up have opened.
